I’m only Human | Poetry | Life in a Poem
Vampire, empire of werewolves
Cartoons, consumes by super heroes
Simplicity appears alienated
Fading into the walls of my computer
All wired up
Tapped into the rhythm at my fingertips
Fantasy forced to appear real
Pealing back at layers
Wearing a traitors mask
I was asked to
Walk in the dark because the light is too bright
Close your eyes because it’s a terrible sight
And your mind, a game
Don’t believe your imagination
You’re just seeing thing
Playing on your gut, it just a pile of goo
Distracting your focus from living
But what is life?
If not for the way you live
My food supply, my sustenance , my worries
I need food for the soul
Chicken soup for the mind
Soul sauce
No poison’s apple can kill me
And no genie can foresee
Oz can’t root for this cause
Ain’t no applause big enough
Time can’ turn me into a pumpkin
Because the beauty from within
Is that
I’m only human

“I was asked to
Walk in the dark because the light is too bright”

Yes the magic in the box sometimes doesn’t feel real. The outlines sometimes blur but it’s important to remember “Because the beauty from within/ Is that/ I’m only human” and sometimes it’s important to take a walk, call a friend, bake a cake, disappear for a little while and remind yourself of your dimensional outlines. Well written.

I live alongside mental illness, and I can’t express how much these words touch me. Fantastic poetry, well done.

I love the imagery as I read the lines. It’s a good integration of drawing in fantasy figures to illustrate our practical everyday life. Great craft!

your verse hops, skips and jumps along whilst carrying the burden strongly on its back..
